On shapes: a scanner does not read the picture, it finds the three corner patterns, works out the grid, then samples the centre of each cell. That is why the module shapes here all read identically to squares, which was measured rather than assumed. The corner shape is the one to be careful with, since it is what the scanner looks for first.
Generated in your browser, so the contents never reach a server. There is also no redirect in the middle: the URL you type is the URL that gets encoded, which is not true of the QR services that route through their own domain and can change or expire the destination later.

Most free QR generators encode a link to their own domain, which then redirects to yours. That is how they can offer scan analytics and edit the destination later, and it is also why those codes stop working when the company changes its pricing or shuts down. A printed code that depends on someone else's server staying up is a liability.
This encodes exactly what you type. The code is built in your browser using a full QR encoder, so the content never reaches a server, there is no account, and nothing expires. A code printed today will still scan in ten years because the destination is written into the pattern itself.
It handles the formats that only work when the syntax is exact: wifi joining, contact cards, prefilled email and SMS. Getting a character wrong in a wifi string produces a code that scans perfectly and joins nothing, so the presets start you from a working shape.

Questions
Do these QR codes expire?
No. The content is encoded directly into the pattern, so there is no server in the middle and nothing to expire. This is the main difference from the free generators that route scans through their own domain.
Is there a scan limit or tracking?
Neither. Because there is no redirect, there is also no scan counter. If you need analytics, encode a URL that already carries your own campaign parameters and read them in your existing analytics.
Which error correction level should I use?
M is the sensible default. Move to Q or H if a logo will sit over the middle, or if the code will be printed on something that gets scuffed or curved. Higher levels make the code denser, so it needs a slightly better camera or a larger print.
SVG or PNG?
SVG for anything printed, because it stays sharp at any size. PNG for screens, email and places that will not accept a vector.
Why does my code not scan?
Usually one of three things: the quiet zone is too small, the colours are inverted light on dark, or the contrast is too low. The tool warns about all three. Scanners need the blank border to find the code at all.
Can I put a logo in the middle?
Download the SVG and place a logo over the centre in any editor. Use level H first, and keep the logo under about a fifth of the width.
How do I make a wifi QR code?
Choose the wifi preset and replace the network name and password in the string. Keep the format exactly as shown, including the semicolons, because a mistyped wifi string produces a code that scans and then does nothing.
