Every guide gives you the dimensions, and dimensions are the easy part. What actually ruins a post is that TikTok draws a caption across the bottom quarter and a column of buttons down the right edge, and your subject was sitting in exactly that space.

Which format loses the most space?
TikTok. Its caption block and action column take a larger share of the frame than any other, and the bottom quarter is effectively unusable.

They are close, and they shift slightly between app versions and phone sizes. Leave a margin rather than placing something right at the edge of a band.
Why does my image look soft?
It is narrower than the format needs, so it is being upscaled. The tool warns when that is the case. Always export at the full width.
